Dumpling Ingredients
- 1 package of pie crusts (2 pie crusts)
- 1 tbsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 cup sugar (or enough to suit tastes)
- 8 medium size firm, tart apples
- 3 tbsp. butter divided into smaller chunks
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
Sauce Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 cups water
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 4 tbsp. butter
Dumpling Directions
- Cut each pie crust into 4 squares
- Mix cinnamon and sugar
- Peel apples and remove core
- Place apple on each crust square
- Add 1/2 tsp. cinnamon and sugar to core hole
- Add 1 tsp. butter and optional cheese to core hole
- Wrap pie crust around apple and gently pinch crust together
- Chill in 13x9 pan in refigerator for 1 hour or overnight
Sauce Directions
- In a medium sauce pan, heat to a boil all sauce ingredients
- Stir constantly till sauce thickens
- Chill sauce
Final Directions
- Pour sauce over chilled apples
- Set oven to 500F and bake for 8-10 minutes
- Turn oven down to 350F for 40 minutes
- Serve warm in dish with ice cream or sour cream
