Apple Dumpling

Dumpling Ingredients

  • 1 package of pie crusts (2 pie crusts)
  • 1 tbsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup sugar (or enough to suit tastes)
  • 8 medium size firm, tart apples
  • 3 tbsp. butter divided into smaller chunks
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Sauce Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 4 tbsp. butter

Dumpling Directions

  1. Cut each pie crust into 4 squares
  2. Mix cinnamon and sugar
  3. Peel apples and remove core
  4. Place apple on each crust square
  5. Add 1/2 tsp. cinnamon and sugar to core hole
  6. Add 1 tsp. butter and optional cheese to core hole
  7. Wrap pie crust around apple and gently pinch crust together
  8. Chill in 13x9 pan in refigerator for 1 hour or overnight

Sauce Directions

  1. In a medium sauce pan, heat to a boil all sauce ingredients
  2. Stir constantly till sauce thickens
  3. Chill sauce

Final Directions

  1. Pour sauce over chilled apples
  2. Set oven to 500F and bake for 8-10 minutes
  3. Turn oven down to 350F for 40 minutes
  4. Serve warm in dish with ice cream or sour cream
