Ingredients
- 2/3 cup shortening
- 2 1/2 cup flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 cup brown sugar
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
Directions
- Combine shortening, flour, salt, and sugar
- Mix until crumbly
- Reserve 1/2 cup of this mixture to sprinkle over butter
- Add other staples to remaining crumbles
- Add eggs and buttermilk till smooth
- Pour into 9x13 and sprinkle reserved crumbles and cinnamon over batter
- Bake at 375F for 40-45 minutes
- Test middle for doneness
Buttermilk Substitute Ingrediants
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tbsp. cream of tarter or lemon juice or white vinegar
Buttermilk Substitute Directions
- Mix room temp milk with other ingrediant
- Let sit for 15 minutes
- Mix again
- Repeat till milk curdles
